Hello, another update of the internship after years. Sorry, it takes a lot of motivation and willpower for me to post anything here, how time flies. Gone were the days when I can't wait for a week to pass by quickly so I could write another blog post so that it seemed consistent. So here's just my experience of being in R.AGE after my week in News. The R.AGE pullout can be found in The Star newspaper every Tuesday and it's kinda cool and targeted more to the youths. Visit their website at www.rage.com.my and follow them on Twitter @thestar_rage and like their page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/thestarRAGE/ .
Day Six, Thursday, 17th December 2015
First day at R.AGE! As people here were a bit chill, they came in a bit late. So Jerrell and I just looked around the place. There was Star TV at the other side of the room and Kuntum (yes that magazine we all used to read in primary school) on another. There was a couch with a guitar and a fridge full of Red Bull cans.
office. While we did, the editor, Ian with long fabulous hair came in and blasted Christmas songs through the speakers. One random moment:
*Justin Bieber's Mistletoe playing*
"Isn't this like the best Christmas song ever?"
*nods*
"Good, I like you already."
Luls. Then Hazriq asked us to wrap some food in a hamper to be given for charity. We puzzled over it for a moment as none of us had any experience in it, but we managed to do it in the end. Until Hilmi (he was very sassy) came over to check it and told us that there was a mistake and there should be a lot more stuff in the hamper, which includes THREE PACKS OF DIAPERS like how in the world do you fit that in a hamper ahahahah. After several long attempts, it was done. Hilmi called Natasha (who gave me the CF tickets yesterday) to scrutinize our end products. Then Jerrell and I had to wrap ANOTHER hamper which was way smaller thank goodness.
Natasha asked us to research Wong Fu Productions' latest movie and about the cosplayer Aza Miyuko to be sent to her. In the middle of researching, Clarissa was shouting "PARTAYY PARTAYY" and everyone joined in suddenly? I was like ok what is happening then they went to me and did the same and ajak-ed me to go downstairs at the Metro/Features/Education floor for a Christmas makan-makan so we all went down through the fire exit staircase! Met Janice and decided to call Ashley and Serena as well so went back up to call them. There were a LOT of food and people, and it was in the middle of the office with chairs and computers.
Being the awkward interns we were, we just hovered around uncertainly among groups of people chatting but we said hi to Chester who handled s@s in the past and remembers me from last year's workshop. Afterwards, we saw our company boss Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and we wanted to take a picture with him. So there we were awkwardly standing RIGHT beside him, he was talking to other journalists while we planned on how to approach him (do we push Jerrell and let him pretend he stumbled in front of him and start a conversation?). We got the picture!
Later, Janice and I spotted Dzireena Mahadzir who was the editor for the fashion segment and approached her to take a picture with her besides introducing ourselves. She was really nice! Mind you, this is the woman who got to fly all around the world covering fashion events whether it is for New York Fashion Weekor whatever and knows the latest fashion trends. She gave us her card and told us that we could ask to work with her in the future or just email her for fashion advice TT_TT.
Day Seven, Friday, 18th December 2015
Natasha asked us to ring up the people who were supposed to collect their CF tickets. Then, Ian's brother Elroy asked me to fill in this expenses for this show R.AGE was doing called The Local Kitchen. I helped out Jerell label their equipment like cameras, tripods, recorder, mic etc etc afterwards. Pretty sure all of them costed more than RM20,000 gulp. The team was excited as they'll be interviewing Wong Fu Productions (WFP) later while I was looking forward to go to the Christmas Hi-Tea in the building in the afternoon with the rest of the interns. So there Jerrell and I was watching WFP and R.AGE videos with Ian and Hilmi giving occasional comments behind us. Found out that Hilmi was from the Sri Hartamas school so I jokingly deadpanned, "Oh sekolah budak kaya," to which he rolled his eyes and replied, "Sekolah orang berlagak kaya,". After lunch, Ian asked Jerrell and I if we wanted to follow him to the WFP interview later YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
We went with Samantha instead to this place called EX8 Building (which was also a church partly) and went to this private room with passwords and guards at the back and saw Natasha telling us to hurry up as the interview was starting soon. It was hard to maintain a straight face when you're in the same room as people you only see on viral Youtube videos and there was also Jinnyboy who was acting like their manager.
All I did was to give the correct food and cutlery at the correct time to WFP as it was a tightly-packed 10-minute ONE SHOT video which showed Natasha and Clarissa interviewing them on the couch while WFP tried out Malaysian dishes. 10 minutes later, we were done and packed up immediately as the next interviewers were already there. One of them happens to be a senior from my school so I said hi.
They offered us free tickets for the WFP movie premiere and fan meeting session but had to decline them sadly as I would be watching Star Wars with my family members that night.
While waiting for my mum to fetch me, I sat with Raisah and Adilah who were there to meet WFP and helped them sign a banner they made for them. The place was already filled up with WFP fans. I got to chat with a lot of them!
Day Eight, Monday, 21st December 2015
Jade's first day interning and she's starting in R.AGE! Ian gave us caps they got while covering CF and we were all going oh the swag thug nonsense talk. Ian explained to us interns about the process of how a R.AGE issue was made. As it was Monday and the pullout comes out on the next day, the issue was ready but it needed to be checked a lot of times for grammatical errors, mistakes, typos and such. So he handed us separate pages of the issue coming out tomorrow to correct any mistakes. Later we had to bring it up to the editor of star2 for it to be checked again and again before sending it to the layout people and only then is it ready to be printed.
They were also testing out the speakers for this Christmas party they're holding the next day. Natasha asked me to make a sign for it to be pasted outside on the door, mentioning that it would be frat-party themed. Went back late because of the transcribing work and I still wasn't done with it.
Day Nine, Tuesday, 22nd December 2015
Still wasn't done with the job. But I did the sign and pasted it, it even had a NO LOSERS ALLOWED at the bottom. It was Raziq's first day in R.AGE, so there was currently four interns there. None of us were going for the party though except for Jade and the R.AGE team was quite upset. Samantha even offered to send us back home later. Natasha said, "Durr wrote there no losers allowed so you guys are losers for not coming." Then Iam said the sign was too pretty and they actually wanted a sign that looks very basic like some dumb college students in a frat made it, so I made a new one. He also asked me to print memes and song lyrics to be pasted all over the walls. For example, at the balcony there were about five signs with the same song lyrics with a sad font, "I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend".
Samantha taught us how she edits the R.AGE website for each new post, layout etc. The whole process was more complex than I thought it was.
After lunch, while the other interns were having fun bonding and playing Truth or Dare I was finishing the transcription hahahaha that's what you get for procrastinating. Afterwards we prepared the floor for the party with food and balloons and fairy lights. Raziq accidentally burst a balloon at one moment.
*balloon bursts*
*Hilmi looks shocked*
"We're going to write on your recommendation later that you disturbed your seniors."
"Gave sound pollution."
"Increased Hilmi's blood pressure.
I even printed memes of Sehun with that shawty imma party till the sun dawn caption. I also had to avoid from the balloons Jerrell kept on hitting in my direction. As food was always available, we also got to taste this half-eaten cookie cake which was delicious.
Day Ten, Wednesday, 23rd December 2015
Last day in R.AGE! We all had breakfast with Janice and her brother James in the morning first, as Janice wanted to use up her canteen vouchers ASAP on her last day. As there was nothing much to do in R.AGE, I spent the time eating up all the extra food from the day before. Then while I was in the middle of watching Weekly Idol (I don't remember which idol it was), suddenly I heard Natasha's voice behind me, "Are you watching Weekly Idol?" I was so surprised she knew what it was as she didn't seem like the type to know K-Pop with her British accent and chic self and all. Then she asked me to go research interracial marriage statistics, divorce cases and whatnot instead of watching Weekly Idol.
During lunch, of course us interns stayed longer than usual playing another round ofSICK Truth Or Dare which scarred me for life mentally. We also talked of our first impressions towards each other. Then lots and lots of pictures.
Conclusion -
Since I'm writing this after being done with the internship for a long time already, I can say that R.AGE was one of the most relaxing segments. It was also the only time where I spoke to everyone there at least once, enough for them to know my name at least and where I can joke around with the people there. Since the song's been playing in my head while writing this and while I was there, I'll just put it here:

The glass windows were full of marker pen writings, as if it's their special whiteboard.
Sometimes while looking through this window I just expect to see snow falling suddenly.
Then Samantha with pink hair came in and asked us to finish up the Christmas decorations in theoffice. While we did, the editor, Ian with long fabulous hair came in and blasted Christmas songs through the speakers. One random moment:

Ian wearing a reindeer headband.
Natasha gave us our first transcribing job (which the other interns had warned us about). I almost died. A 15 minutes voice recording took a few hours to be transcribed. We transcribed the interview with Aza Miyuko and she spoke in Korean but of course there was a translator. Then Samantha gave us another transcribing job, and the recording was 50 MINUTES. While doing that, Shanjeev and Hilmi asked us for suggestions for this charity-drive project they are planning to start and how to promote it to others so that they join in. Ian and Elroy joined in and the conversation took a turn to the funny side. Basically the project is about what you can buy with RM20 saying that oh instead of buying that I'll donate this for so-and-so and post a video of it and nominate others by pretending to pass the thing you can buy with RM20 to the nominated person, so that when the nominated person records his video at another place he pretends to catch that object. Ian was asking that what if he buys nasi kandar how does he throw it to the next person? And then there's Elroy pretending, "Hi I'm Elroy and I buy a bag of bricks for RM20 every day and I nominate Shanjeev HERE CATCH IT".They were also testing out the speakers for this Christmas party they're holding the next day. Natasha asked me to make a sign for it to be pasted outside on the door, mentioning that it would be frat-party themed. The almost finished cookie cake.
The decorations.
Before we left, Samantha asked Raziq and I to write out sorority/fraternity names on about 20 pieces of stickers so we had fun researching names from Scream Queens and Mean Girls. Afterwards, us and Jade were told to make the 20 questions for the 20 Questions video R.AGE makes (with previous guests such as Tony Fernandes and Kyoto Protocol's lead singer Fuad Alhabshi) but this time it's for our boss Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai who might come for the party later!Day Ten, Wednesday, 23rd December 2015

As it was also my last day in R.AGE, I took pics with almost everyone, although the quality of the pictures are terrible, sorry for that.
Then I helped Raziq with his phone interview with the singer Russell Curtis whose new song will be released the day after, entitled Remember and is for charity. Listen to it, it's a very touching song!
So then I went back with a free bag of marshmallows from the Christmas party the day before. There were still so many bags unopened! And oh like in the post before on that day too an article of mine came out: http://www.thestar.com.my/metro/community/2015/12/23/students-spend-holidays-giving-back-to-society/
