(not related to anything happening to my life whatsoever so you don't have to read this)
Just a short one. COULDN'T KEEP IT IN.
Let's start from the beginning. The 2014 World Figure Skating Championships are held from the 26th March until 29th March which is today. So, Yuzuru Hanyu was one of the competitors. To be honest, I was very worried as he is already the Olympics gold medallist - might lead to overconfidence or burden/pressure and the championships are held in none other than his own country - Japan - leading to high expectations from others and pressure. Come to think of it, every medallist during this year's figure skating's Olympics didn't even participate besides him.
Two (or is it three) days ago was the short program (SP) event for men. Had a bad feeling from the start somehow. I managed to watch a live stream from 2PM to 7.30PM and he was the 29th person to skate. Of course, I had high expectations since he is the world record holder for the SP event by scoring more than 100 marks during his legendary Olympics SP.
But then. Everyone skated so well and when his turn came, well, he fell. On his first jump. BADLY. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME HE FELL WHILE PERFORMING PARISIENNE WALKWAYS. But then the rest of his skate was ok. When he got his scores, he was in second place, almost 7 marks behind the one holding the number one spot and almost 10 marks lower than his Olympics one.
LOOK AT THAT FALL.
And then.. Javier skated and he took the number 2 spot and we see Yuzuru being pushed down to the 3rd spot.
nonchan1023 puts the blame on his haircut
His face after receiving the marks.
Yesterday was the Long Program/Free Skate (FS) Event which determined the permanent rankings for 2014. I was worried.. but I had a good feeling? He has never done a perfect skate for his FS which is Romeo and Juliet as he always falls while doing his quads especially Quad Salchow (grr). Even during the Olympics, he fell twice. And mind you, the competition was great as everyone did an amazing - almost flawless skates. By the time Tatsuki (who was number 1 at that time) finished, I did not expected anything and even thought Yuzuru wouldn't even get a medal.
BUT THEN. HE NAILED ALL HIS JUMPS, SPINS, AND EVERYTHING PERFECTLY FOR THE FIRST TIME. ok not that perfect but he didn't fall like he always do. (falling is considered falling when the knees touch the ground)
FIRST TIME EVER I ENJOYED THIS ROMEO AND JULIET PERFORMANCE.
I think this was the first time he did so for this season? You can see the determined look in his face of trying to catch up with the scores. And you can see that the interviews were true, he has severe back pain and knee pain so gotta respect him for that as he kinda clutched his back after he was done. When the marks were given out, we found out that he's in first place!!! His reaction was PRICELESS. Totally deserved it. And the difference in marks between him and the second place is only 0.33- I just-
Asking the audience to lower down their explosive cheers.
Finding out he is the World's Gold Medallist.
Javier got 3rd and it's a proud moment to see both him and Yuzuru standing on the podium sobs.
"Look at him. Olympic gold medallist and World's champion. What a year it has been for Hanyu." -said the commentator of Eurosports.
Then, there's the gala exhibition happening this Sunday (not sure what time though). Big possibility of him performing Story (mehh). I'm glad that after World's, he can rest for a while and heal all his injuries hopefully.
SO PROUD OF HIM.
So again, congratulations and good job to Javier Fernandez, Tatsuki Machida and Yuzuru Hanyu for your win!

Update: I'm watching the Gala Exhibitions now here http://livemanager.eurovision.edgesuite.net/isu/site/index.html . I thought Yuzuru's performing Story but then on yesterday's interview, someone asked whether he will perform the old Romeo and Juliet (the legendary one he did in 2012 after the earthquake incident, the one which made him famous and one of his best skates ever) and the way he reacted to the woman's, with a long 'eeeeee' and 'bull's eye but it's a secret, I'm not supposed to reveal it here' face xD LAUGHING AT YOU. The link is here.
AND THEN WOW HE REALLY WILL PERFORM THE OLD ROMEO AND JULIET I'M SO EXCITED AM I DREAMING.
Currently waiting for his performance, which is the last one.
(i wonder how they adjusted the costume since he last wore it in 2012 and he grew so much taller)
(javier's skate as usual was fantastic and hilarious)
Second update: Watched it hahahaha it was amazing! Even though the it was more.. suppressed from the 2012 one in Nice, France. Back then when he performed it, he was showing a character that was rash, emotional and reckless. Now it's more controlled, more ... mature? Well, he did say in the interview yesterday, "I don't think it is going to be the same as in Nice if I perform it now, and I don't want you to think that it is going to be the same as in Nice if I perform in the iceshows. The feeling I had was only at the Nice, and I can never do it in the same. In fact, I couldn't when I did it in the MOI at JN. It was regrettable but I want you to see the R&J at the moment, so please support me with warm eyes."
See the difference:
2012's Romeo and Juliet
2014's Romeo and Juliet + Parisienne Walkways encore
"...prince of figure skating but he's the king now."
Nonetheless, it's not every day you get to watch him skating to Parisienne Walkways in his Romeo and Juliet costume during his encore!
Here's to the Grand Prix Final, National, Olympics, and World Champion.
「終わった」
After skating his Romeo and Juliet exhibition, he says “Owatta”, which means “It’s over”.
