The Land of The Rising Sun part 1 - Kisarazu

Assalamualaikum and.. konnichiwa. (9 days in Japan and I still have problems with the greetings). It's been a long time since I got back from Japan and am basically procrastinating from writing a post about it because there's too much to be told and too many pictures. I've been wondering what title should I put and some of them are:

  • G-Dragon Who? (because I forgot all about him for a week for the first time)
  • Arigatou Gozaimasu
  • That Winter Dream
Warning you people now, this is going to be one heck of a long post. Some people asked why and how I got to go this trip. My cousin's parents (my uncle and aunt duh), they used to study in Japan for quite some time and they're like best friends with this couple. This (Malaysian) couple now hosts homestay trips to Japan, like, every year. During this year's Aidilfitri when the whole family gathers, that aunt of mine told my mother about this so.. yeah. And this year's trip is actually for the Japanese class secondary school students of Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar/English College Johore Bahru, Johor (the late 3rd Prime Minister of Malaysia's school) and there were a lot of extra spots so.. my cousins and I joined, plus my cousin's childhood friends from Ipoh. Very awkward. Was also secretly hoping to bump into Big Bang (especially G-Dragon) who's also having their concert in Tokyo mehehe.

If you're too lazy to read the whole thing below, just watch this video I made ohoho. (First time buat video fail).

Day 1 - 11th Dec 2013
[[Ugh using English is too difficult after not being in school for more than a month so do bear the mixed language words]] Went to LCCT with parents and Umar (cousin who's staying at my house for tuition and also sending off his two sisters to Japan with me). Ya kita naik Air Asia bukan MAS sebab mahal ok. I was the last to arrive. Awkward introductions by Syifaq to her friends. Semua ibu-ibu kitorang bercakap and kena dengar diorang punya pesanan and all pasal jaga each other, jangan tinggal solat etc. Got our name tags by Uncle Za'ba (the person responsible for this whole trip and our guide).

Cousins. From left: Syifaq, yours truly, Uncle Za'ba, Widad, Iman

In the plane, I sat between Iman and... A JAPANESE GUY HAHAHAHA (he can pass as an actor ok) for 7 hours. He smelt like food and ramen (ok I'm getting creepier). Bertolak pukul 3. All I did was eat, sleep, read Son of Neptune and listen to music. We reached Haneda Airport somewhere around 10 PM. The time there is an hour faster than Malaysia. We were very excited to go out of the plane and when we did, we were blasted with strong and cold wind. JADI HYPER TERUS HAHAHA. When we lined up for the passport checking thing there was an American couple beside us and they said our scarves (tudung) are pretty hahaha. Went on a train/LRT/monorail/subway and slept in Toyoko Inn. Slept in the same room as Syifaq and Maryam. Oh and the waktu solat there is different (obviously). Subuh - 5.10-6.40, Zuhur - 11/12 (?), Asar - 1/2, Maghrib - 4, Isyak - 5.
Making hot chocolate and stirring it with a toothbrush in the middle of the night.

Day 2 - 12th Dec 2013
(Going to skip all unnecessary stuff). Brought all our luggage to the bus which took us for a long ride to Kisarazu. Slept all the way (AND GRR IMAN AND SYIFAQ TOOK AWFUL PICTURES OF IT). We reached Kisarazu National College of Technology which was also where Uncle Zaba studied before. It may be called 'College' but it's actually an engineering school for students from 15 - 22 years old. I can't imagine learning engineering now wow. We dropped off our luggage and went to the bus again to go to Kimitsu Steel Works. I feel like Crayon Pop in Bar Bar Bar (K-Pop reference sorry) wearing those red helmets. Got to see how steel is made. Wah I never knew I would be able to see it in person because its always shown in How It's Made on TV ahaha.
(If you have skipped reading everything above, from now onward is when the fun begins). Went back to the school and we were ushered to outside of a.. basketball court and there were hundreds of shoes.. I was thinking WHAT WHAT WHAT IS THIS NO ONE TOLD US ABOUT THIS I AM NOT PREPARED TO SOCIALIZE WITH PEOPLE I AM NOT PREPARED-
MALU GILA OK DAHLAH RAMAI ORG. I almost died when we had to introduce ourselves on the mic like KAU GILA KE. I.. said the memorized Japanese line from my buku Instant Japanese and.. *CRICKET CRICKET* Then when everyone introduced themselves suddenly Uncle Zaba said "Oh sekarang ni masa korang perform!" SEJAK BILA ADA PERFORMANCE PULAK. I managed to run away to the side while the geng Ipoh including my cousins did their dikir barat performance from their this year's Keledang Night (a performance they do every year for a charity event in front of the Raja and Permaisuri Perak.) Well, it was very awkward as none of us prepared for it so the moves and lines were only half correct... *CRICKET CRICKET* Then, the EC (English College Johor) students did a presentation about Malaysia and their school and yeah. After that, three Malaysian students who were already studying in that school talked in Japanese about Malaysian food and the students were invited to have a taste.

Oh right, before that we had to stand in front of a line of students each and that line of students were supposed to.. give us a tour.. CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING ALONE IN THE MIDDLE OF A DOZEN OF STUDENTS WITH A LANGUAGE BARRIER.

Basically while everyone tengah berebut for food Iman, Eizka and I panic lol we didn't want to be separated so we decided to be together. Sangat riuh rendah ok. I was kinda lost too BUT THEN A BOY PUT HIS HAND ON MY SHOULDER (baju 4 lapis tebal ok) AND YEAH IT WAS TIME FOR THE TOUR. Outside of the court, I got lost (again) and another boy showed me where the rest of our group was. HAHAHHA I couldn't speak Japanese and they couldn't speak English so I just followed them and they literally used Google translate to communicate with me hhahhaaha.
Thank you kind people-
So we went outside the place where everyone is supposed to meet up and duduk je situ. I showed my phone wallpaper which is L from Death Note to this girl lol
and then we all started saying all the animes, mangas, and artists that we know HAHHAHHAA. Wah everyone knows Kuroko no Basket and Attack on Titans. (P.S: A guy with glasses and dyed brown hair with ear piercings said that I have a nice smile and I'm very tall sobs)

Met up with Iman and she said that in her group, a girl asked her whether she was a K-Pop fan because of her backpack (MCM backpack, K-Pop artists like GD and 2NE1 are often seen wearing it) and they were basically screaming about EXO and Baekhyun and Kris in the middle of everyone hahahaha. This was also when Syifaq liked this guy who gave her a tour named Tejime (you'll see about this later haish teenage girls these days).

Joined a tea ceremony too!

Caption: Where do I stare what do I have to do ouch my legs hurt-
In the middle of the tea ceremony I got cramps on my leg HAHAHAHAHA everyone was calm and there I was rolling around and uh I sat cross-legged after that.

We were then separated to our foster families. Iman and I are together teehee. And our foster sister, Yuki, is a student in that school, a senior. 18 years old. We talked a bit in the car with her parents on our 40 minutes journey home and they must be pretty well educated because their English is really really good even though they have never been to any English countries before. Told the parents what food we can and we cannot eat.
The slippers we use in the house (and we get to bring it back to Malaysia)
The main room where we watch television and eat. Wahh tiap2 malam Yuki would play the piano (mostly Disney songs).
You know the original version of Boys Over Flowers which is Hana Yori Dango (released in 2005)? Back then, the main actor which is Matsumoto Jun from Arashi was THE artist. THEY ARE STILL SO SO SO POPULAR WOW. They even have their own TV show! I watched the Billboard 100 Japan and they were in the number 2 spot after AKB48. Matsumoto Jun is, like, in half of the advertisements on TV.
I have watched Naruto in Japan itself you jelly bro.

Day 3 - 13th Dec 2013
Woke up from Yuki's mum's cheerful 'GOOD MORNINGGGG!!!' We were supposed to go to school together with Yuki. Her mum packed us our very own bento lunch box :') She drove us to the bus/train/LRT station and dropped us three off. IT WAS VERY PACKED. Iman and I met Yuki's two best friends - Chika and Kanna.
My Suica card! It's like the Touch and Go and I can just swipe this whole case (I don't have to take out the card!) to pay the tambang.
This is inside the train (?). And no, there were no perverts or anything. But wow a lot of school students use this method of transportation.
We switched trains in another station and after some time keluar kena jalan pulak pergi to a bus stop where we waited for the bus. Yuki told us usually she would ride her bicycle from here to school. Like wow, they can just park their bicycle there!
In the bus.
Walking to school!
From left: Yuki, Kanna, me, Chika and Iman. They dropped us here to meet with the other Malaysians while they go off to learn.
There, we exchanged stories with the others. Syifaq and Widad (sisters staying together or course) got two younger foster sisters named Kaho and Natsume who look so cute! Their foster mum is also kinda like the GPK HEM of that school. Maryam and Eizka's story was funny, their foster mum.. lived alone.. in the middle of the woods.. at a mountain.. 1 hour away from school. They said it was really scary and in the morning they had to tabur white powder on this tree outside because a monkey once died there ermahgerd hahahahah.

We were all separated into two groups, each going to a different class to learn English with the other students yay! I was stuck with Iman again (ini destiny) and yeah, we sat in the middle of the class. In front of use was one Malaysian student who studied there, we called her Kak Yasmin. She's 19 and she applied for a scholarship from JPA after SPM. The English class was fun, we played the Yes/No game where we are supposed to ask each other questions and can't answer them with Yes or No. We were given 5 Yes/No cards and if we said the taboo words we have to give one to the other person.
The teacher is from Scotland and he's really funny (although a lot of my cards went to him D:<)

On the furthest right is Mami, who is really friendly and nice!
After an hour or so, we left the class and went on the bus to go to Kisarazu Junior High (macam sekolah menengah. Form 1-Form 5 same). We waited in a room first and when we got the schedule, my eyes went O_O. Here in Malaysia we would always put the time like for example: 10.25, 11 but there they said that oh the students will come to bring us to class at 10.27, 11.03. Very precise.
While waiting.
We were brought to their class and separated so one person for each group. Learnt how to make origami yayers.
They're all only a year younger than me ok.

I made all of these myself except for the cute Durrah writing (aww) and the shuriken and the purple flower which the person beside me (her name is Erina) made for me.
Around this time my phone habis battery so gambar takde. The wind was blowing extra hard that day and we rode the bus again to go to somewhere near the sea (AHH I FORGOT THE NAME). There, we ate and enjoyed the REALLY REALLY STRONG WIND. The wind was so strong that it is possible to have your umbrella broken there and if you jump, you might just be blown away somewhere else. I was having a running nose and shivering lol.

We got back to school and we were allowed to walk wherever we want around the school (plus it's our last day there since it's a Friday).
Ate my bento because I was hungry. Aren't these so kawaii.
Two onigiris (rice balls with fillings), eggs, and fruits ohoho.
Meanwhile, my friend Khalida and Vivien met Yuki who brought them to the library and she played the piano for them there. Thanks Khalida for recording the video!
Yuki must be a really respected senpai (senior) because when she passes by other students you can see them bowing to her and some younger guys like talking to her with admiration. YA MACAM MANGA DAN ANIME OK. We went to wait for the bus later on and she took us to a mall. Bought some Kuroko no Basket Souvenirs and passed by the bookshop.
THERE'S A SECTION FOR YAOI (GAY) MANGAS HAHAHAHA. Yuki was like "Oh you like to read these kind of stories?" and she said a lot of her friends do hahahaha.

Day 4 - 14th Dec 2013
Day off with our foster family! We were waiting for Yuki's older brother who works in Tokyo to come so we went outside and walked to her primary school where she showed us around. Wow they plant trees in the field just for summer so that the can hide under the shade. So Yuki's older brother, gave us Hello Kitty keychains (WHICH I LOST LATER ON IN DISNEYLAND D:<) and.. toy cars for Yuki. She really loves ALL Pixar movies! He did the 'Gomenasai' hand on the forehead to his mother for not buying anything for her like how the people in mangas do lol.

Went to eat sushi and I tried eating natto. NEVER AGAIN.

Went to the mall nearby where we went mostly window shopping. UNIQLO KAT SITU GILA MURAH. AND ALL THE CLOTHES THERE ARE THE KIND YOU ONLY SEE IN ONLINE SHOPS *^* Iman bought a pair of studded black boots. We also bought a top from Anap (which we later found out is a very very famous shop) each because there was a winter sale. Went to the arcade and took pictures in the purikura (photo booth). Iman and I were busy sabotaging each other's face by putting moustaches- Yuki's brother got a box of jigsaw puzzle from that something game.
Went to the bookstore where I bought a Nylon magazine with Kiko Mizuhara as the cover girl and a 2014 Kiko Mizuhara calendar inside! Then uh we went grocery shopping where the Doraemon theme song was playing and we all sang along lol.

Later that night we made takoyaki and okonimiyaki. It was fun flipping them and they were delicious! They said that the fast takoyaki makers in shops are expensive so we had to wait for a while for ours to cook properly.

Yuki's mom made mi goreng for us using yakisoba! They have a family member living in Indonesia and they've went there before.

It was our last night there and yeah we started giving our gifts from Malaysia and they gave us gifts too. Time to pack for our journey to Tokyo.

That's it for part 1!
